I Will Knot is intended to help you get a solid start in knot tying, and I hope you've found it to be useful. But this is only the beginning: there is a huge and wonderful world of knotting out there, this site gives you but a taste!
Below are a dozen of the best-in-class knotting resources around, with which you can extend your knowledge of knots dramatically. I have provided links to Amazon.com, where you can read actual pages from the books (except the DVDs which have no pages!), and see what other people who have read the books think about them. The Ashley Book of Knots (book) - This is THE definitive reference on knotting, without peer. It contains over 3,900 different knots, clearly presented through 7,000 illustrations. It is a beautiful book, and truly a must have for anyone who is interested in knots of any kind. Read the customer reviews to get an inkling of how substantive and significant this book is.
Knot Tying DVD: Why Knot? an introduction to knots, splices and rope (dvd) - If you found the short instructional video clips on this site helpful, this knot-tying DVD is the next logical extension! It's two hours long, and covers almost 50 knots useful to campers, climbers, horseback riders, necktie-wearers, sailors and others. HIGHLY recommended.
Fishing Knots (dvd) - Like the above this DVD extends the video clips on this site greatly, but with a fishing focus. Covers 16 fishing knots that will allow you to handle any fishing situation for any species of fish.
Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy Rope Work (book) - A classic knot-tying book from the 1939 that has stood the test of time, Over 3,500 knots of all varieties, and some great stories behind each of them.
Chinese Knotting (book) - Chinese knotting is a utilitarian art form that goes back to ancient times, and is characterized by intricacy and elegance, often rich with symbolism. Even flipping through the pages at Amazon and looking at the incredible pictures is a rewarding experience!
The Complete Book of Decorative Knots (book) - Over 80 decorative knots for beginner to expert knotters out there. These knots are somehwat more elaborate than the ones on this site, but the results are knots that are really art objects in and of themselves. In addition to looking good, many serve practical functions as well, including knots for doormats and hammocks! Clear instructive diagrams, as well as great historical and contextual information throughout.
The Marlinspike Sailor (book) - Some of the best knot books were published early last century, and this 1956 sailing knot classic is no exception. It teaches everything from the basic bowline, hitches and bends, all the way up to the traditional decorative ropework used by sailors for centuries. Every sailor should have this!
Practical Fishing Knots (book) - This is probably the most complete fishing knot book out there. it covers knots for just about all types of fishing, including freshwater, saltwater, fly, spinning and bait.
The Book of Camping Knots (book) - Knowing your knots is still essential for all campers, even those who "camp" in places where they can plu their color tvs in! This is an easy-to-follow guide to the most useful knots for camping anyone can use.
Knots & Ropes for Climbers (book) - Interest in both indoor and outdoor climbling has ballooned acroos the world in recent years, and with that the need for knotting knowledge specific to this adrenaline-enducing sport! This is pretty much the knotting Bible for climbers.
Fisherman's Ultimate Knot Guide (book) - This is an extremely inexpensive fishing knot reference, printed on plastic cards so they are handy to take along fishing. Needless to say, it's nice to have this knowledge WHERE and when you need it!
